At Light Science Technologies, we’re dedicated to not only illuminating growing crops, but helping create a brighter future for the planet too!

To help restore some the planet’s most vital ecosystems and combat carbon emissions, we are a devoted partner of the One Tree Planted initiative.

With climate change concerns growing year-on-year, many industries are facing pressure to adopt better practices to increase sustainability.

As key innovators in horticulture and agriculture, we’re doing our part to push the plant and food growing industry towards more sustainable practices through our products that give growers more control over their crops.

But on top of our sustainable innovations, we plant trees!

Partnering with One Tree Planted

For every light luminaire, sensor or other product we provide, we plant a tree through our partner – One Tree Planted – to support sustainable agriculture projects globally.

One Tree Planted is a non-profit organisation working with local planting partners in over 70 countries and across diverse ecosystems, to fund large-scale and high-impact projects.

Their projects are funded by partners (including Light Science Technologies) for the benefit of global reforestation, biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration and agroforestry. They also provide community benefits such as improving local health, supporting indigenous project ownership and encouraging sustainable income generation.

Through our partnership, we’re giving back to the environment by planting trees all over the world, from South America and Africa, to Asia and Australia!

So far, One Tree Planted has planted over 135 million trees with funding from their partners and is currently planting around 50 million trees per year. Since their inception in 2014, the initiative has made a great impact on some of our planet’s most vital ecosystems.

As a partner of One Tree Planted, we’re proud to contribute towards such a positive initiative that aids green spaces most affected by deforestation.

Why are we planting trees?

Without trees, our planet would cease to function!

Trees perform an important role with the production of oxygen and sequester of carbon dioxide (CO2) through photosynthesis. So, by planting more tress, we replace greenhouse gases with healthy, breathable oxygen.

Moreover, forests across the world are teeming with life. With ongoing mass deforestation, their inhabiting nature faces the threat of extinction. Restoration ensures our world’s most vibrant and exotic nature can thrive in flourishing forest environments.

Light Science Technologies – shaping the future of sustainable crop growing

Since 2019, we have been committed to delivering lighting and environmental monitoring solutions that help growers produce more with less.

As controlled environment agriculture specialists, partnered with some of the world’s leading university research teams, our technology is also playing a crucial role in some major environmental developments, including…

nurturGROW – the ideal light recipe

Our adaptive lighting systems have been a beneficial solution for sustainable greenhouse growing by enabling farmers to shine the right amount of light for the right amount of time – therefore reducing energy consumption.

Through years of research, we have created the nuturGROW – a fully updateable, bespoke and intelligent lighting solution that helps achieve optimal yields in greenhouse or vertical farming environments.

By enabling growers to achieve higher yields, crop growing can be more sustainable with less margin for error and wasted resources.

sensorGROW – data driven growing

Our sensor products are giving plant researchers better insights on a crop’s growing conditions, enabling them to make more sustainable and cost-effective decisions.

Released in 2022, the sensorGROW is an all-in-one growing intelligence tool aimed at giving farmers better environmental control over their crops based on data-driven results. By using data to grow bigger, better and higher yield crops, the sensorGROW is helping us produce more crops to feed our growing global population.

Our ongoing projects for sustainability

After great interest in sensorGROW from the agricultural sector, we were awarded a grant in 2024 by the Innovate UK collaborative scheme to take the capabilities of the sensor to the next level. Meaning we’ll be able to gather even more insightful data that can enable more sustainable growing.

Furthermore, we have been pioneering sustainable growing with our involvement in the TRIP (Transformative Reduced Input in Potatoes) trials. The goal of the project is to identify new scalable farming techniques for potato growing and reduce resulting emissions of greenhouse gases, including CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and N2O (Nitrous Oxide).

One sustainable step at a time…

From planting trees to agricultural innovations, we’re all about sustainability here at Light Science Technologies.

As we continue to support environmental initiatives and innovate in our technology, we are confident that we are taking small yet crucial steps to move us towards a greener future.
